Some people need to back the hell off Ms. Paula
Yes, Ms. Paula has type two diabetes. So what? So does my husband. He cooks for his family every single night. (yes, I'm a lucky girl) Does that mean he should be chastized for feeding his children the way he does? Have y'all seen my kids? They are so skinny it's ridiculous. We feed our family a mostly organic, whole foods diet with an occassional home made dessert thrown in.
And my husband still has type two diabetes.
And I still got cancer.
People in the media are portraying her the reason America is so stinking fat and obese. Really, because the last time I checked, Ms. Paula was using the same exact recipes that my grandmother used 40 years ago. You know, before America was supersized. She has and always has stressed moderation. Just because she waited three years to share her VERY personal information with the rest of America does not mean she's hiding something. It doesn't mean she was worried about her cooking empire.
It means that she wanted time to process this information. I know from experience. Hearing news like this was very hard on my husband. Hearing the words 'you have cancer' was VERY difficult to process. I still struggle with it today, a year later. So if she wanted to keep this little nugget of information to herself, good for her.
Yes, she has partnered with a drug company. And while I am generally anti-pharmaceutical, I understand her use of this drug. It is a newer drug and my husband uses it. Even when his weight is down where the dr. wants it, his blood sugar numbers are never perfect and rarely acceptable. Using Victoza helps reassure us that he isn't getting organ damage from his diabetes. You see, he has a four year old that we would both like to see get walked down the isle by her daddy.
Why is everyone so up in arms over a woman who cooks old fashioned, southern cooking? Encouraging people to cook at home is a huge step over going through a drive through to pick up burgers and fries. I'm pretty sure a piece of fried chicken sitting beside a mess of greens is a better choice than a preservative laden McHeartattack with a side of deep fried potato product coated in wheat gluten.
Some people need to back the hell off of Ms. Paula.

Amen and amen.
And might I add - what a wonderful photo of HRH.
Hey there...I'm visiting from SITS! I could not agree with you more...enough already! Have a good one!
I love you. And Miss Paula. My mom told me to stop cooking like Miss Paula. I almost told her she was being kind of a hypocrite since I cook like her too.
You said it. Its her right to tell people when she wants and she has done absolutely nothing wrong.
I immediately thought of you and the SGG when I saw the story about Ms. Paula. And I thought it was a real crock they way they did her with this story. I know naturally thin people who are extremely unhealthy. I know chubby folks who have all the right numbers medically except for the ones on the scale. And I would much rather have home cooked food made with love than any kind of low fat no taste garbage that some high brow idiot tells me is the 'right' food to eat. Holier than thou people need to get a damn life!
Agree! God gave us all free will. If she wants to kill herself from her cooking, at least she died being happy. Last night, I saw on tv where now they are talking about all of the other overweight tv chefs and debating whether they should change their cooking habits or not. Blah! I tend to not watch shows where they preach healthy cooking non-stop.
I am not joking when I say that I would rather look like Paula than someone like Giada de Laurentis any day. I think she is beautiful and has aged so gracefully. When you think of all she accomplished before she ever became a TV personality, you have to be impressed. Plus, she's an awesome cook.
Gurl.... AMEN. Preach it!
